Being a dosey git, I managed to break my ceramic lamp base. After several months with no lamp I decided to spend an afternoon making one.
I have a wood-turning 'lathe' attachment for an electric drill (which actually works quite well). I simply turned down a piece of scrap stock, drilled a hole up the middle (for the wire) and glued the bulb fitment onto the top. Hey-presto ... a new lamp. I don''t know if I totally trust gluing the bulb holder as it could go wobbly on me, but at least this base won't shatter into a million pieces when I drop it.
